The free and timed event has proven popular with many who turn out to walk, jog or run the five kilometre course.
Parkrun launched in Mount Isa in March this year and was supported by Mount Isa City Council.
A community grant from Glencore helped the group fund a defibrillator.
On Saturday, November 17 participants took on the humid weather conditions and powered through the course.
Fifty people ran, jogged and walked the course. Three people were first timers and four recorded new personal best times.
The event was made possible with the help of seven volunteers including Anita Fahey, Justin Fahey, Wendy Kent, Brenda Hatherell, Lynn Gillies-Hughes, Karen Kretschmann and Cat Masterson.
Mount Isa parkrun event director Sarah Choyce said Mount Isa has embraced the parkrun phenomenon.
“We are starting to see some regular faces and we are still seeing an encouraging amount of first timers most weeks,” she said.
Mount Isa parkrun is inviting more people to come onboard and help run the event.
“As the event is entirely run by volunteers, the more people we have put their hand up, the more we all get to enjoy parkrun,” Sarah said.
“Going forward we hope to welcome business and community groups to supply some volunteers for an agreed week.
“The minimum number for this to happen would be six people.”
Sarah said all of the volunteer roles come with full training. The jobs are easy, fun and rewarding.
“We have already seen a number of groups freely give their time to do this and it is much appreciated,” she said.
The event takes place at Tharrapatha Way, on the corner of Davis Road and Urquhart Street in Mount Isa.
The event is free but participants are required to register before their first parkrun.
Once registered, every parkrun participant will receive a barcode which can be used to record a personal time.
