Daniel took up triathlons in 2018 and said he enjoyed competing in his first two events.
As a keen endurance runner, Daniel initially joined the IsaRATS training sessions for fitness.
He developed good friendships through attending the sessions and decided to take up triathlons.
Daniel said doing a swim, cycle and run is very different to any other events he has competed in.
“You have to learn to pace yourself,” he said.
The IsaRATS club is open to people of all abilities and those who have never done triathlons before.
Daniel said training sessions are tailored to suit those who are just starting out or experienced athletes.
“We have two coaches for swimming and running,” he said.
“They put together schedules for training throughout the week.
“It doesn’t matter if you run 10 kilometres in two hours or 10 kilometres in 40 minutes.
“We cater for everyone.”
Training in the hot weather conditions gives the IsaRATS members an advantage when it comes to competition.
Daniel said IsaRATS had a running training session on Monday, November 19.
“It was 5.30pm in the evening and we were running up and down Pamela Street Hill.
“When we do go to compete we are at an advantage, as we know how to cope with the heat.”
The IsaRATS club will host an open day on December 2 at the Mount Isa pool.
Members of the community are invited to attend, ask questions and enjoy a barbecue.
The race season starts in the new year.
IsaRATS is a non-profit sporting club in Mount Isa, North West Queensland, that holds running and triathlon events.
