At 67 years of age, Mr Fulham is retiring, and placing the running of his family-run Ryan Road Vet Clinic in the hands of Gillian Tenni who joined the practice in 2014.
Last Friday a special retirement party was held in his honour at the animal hospital with many people showing their support.
While Mount Isa holds a special place in his heart, Mr Fulham and his wife, Sandra, will be relocating closer to family.
“Although we both have a great affection for Mount Isa, we will not retire here.
“All our family connections are further south so we will relocate to Redcliffe over the next months,” he said.
Over his many years of working at the veterinary clinic Mr Fulham has many fond memories.
“While there are special individual patients and clients, the rewards are in the daily sharing in both the joy of the new pet and the sadness as the older ones depart.”
“One of the best things has been treating the pets of the children of our original clients and of their children,” he said.
A love for astronomy and all things science will fill Mr Fulham’s days, along with family and friends once the relocation is made.
Mr Fulham arrived in Mount Isa as a student in 1974 and after leaving for a short period of time he came back to the oasis of the outback.
“Back then the Mount Isa Veterinary Surgery was located in West Street behind the then pharmacy,” Mr Fulham said.
“Later in 1979, I was in Perth and my parents were operating a Barra boat in the Gulf so a position in Mount Isa seemed appealing.
“A few years, later that boat was sold and my parents relocated, but by then I was well established in the Isa,” he said.
Mount Isa veterinary Surgery was relocated to the present site in 1974 by owner Gordon Barnett.
In 1979 Mr Fulham joined the practice and in 1982 he purchased the practice from Mr Barnett.
“Now Gillian Tenni has now purchased it.”
The surgery is located on the corner of Ryan Rd and Barnes St.
It is open from Monday to Friday: 9am to 11am then from 4pm to 6pm
