Mr Maher competed against 40 other International models from around the world.
The experience of a lifetime came after he attracted the attention of the judges last month in Cairns at the prestigious National modelling contest Manhunt Australia, winning the honour to represent Australia.
Mr Maher said it was an amazing experience.
“All the models stayed at the Q1 on the Gold Coast and I was surrounded by incredible people from all around the world.”
“I have made life long friends,” he said.
The young Indigenous man, Warluwarra and Wangka-yutjurru, said it was a shock to be announced in the top 5.
“Then to come second was the most amazing feeling. I am more than happy with that result,” he said.
Die-hard friends nad followers from Mount Isa watched the announcement live on their devices.
“If Spain can’t fulfil his duty then Dale steps in. How awesome for him,” an excited fan gushed.
The winner of the competition was Vicent Llorach from Spain.
This was the 19th edition of Manhunt International pageant.
