The Civic Centre was decked out in ornamental festive decorations where local elders enjoyed a delicious, traditional Christmas-themed lunch, played musical bingo, won giveaways and were entertained on the big screen by Andre Rieu.
Mayor Joyce McCulloch said the Christmas lunch was an important way to recognise the community’s senior citizens during the holiday season and thank them for everything they’ve done.
She said a lot of our seniors spend Christmas on their own so this was a great opportunity for them to warm their hearts with friends.
“We consider the event to be very special. Some people don’t have the opportunity to have family with them on Christmas Day because they live away.
“A lot of effort has gone into the decorations and the event, so I’d like to thank you all for supporting us and the other lunches during the year,” she said.
