If you were in the vicinity of St Joseph’s Catholic school Mount Isa last Friday you could have been forgiven for overhearing a rock concert from all the whoops, cheers and screams coming from the school hall – and with good reason.

Every year St Joeys has its annual Christmas dance off on the last day of school when all of the grades get up and do a dance.
It’s a tradition that each year the teachers also do a dance at the end however this year as a surprise to the kids an enthusiastic group of parents instead took to the stage.
According to dancer organiser Karen Pye, “this year us parents sort of took over.”
“We danced to Cha Cha Slide, all the directions are in the song so it was easy to follow,” Ms Pye said. “We did four practices in the week leading up and that was it.”
Ms Pye was joined by about 16 parents as they cha cha slid across the stage.
The hard part was keeping it a secret from the kids ahead of the day.
“It was awesome fun and great to see the kids’ reaction,” she said.
