Minister for Training and Skills Development Shannon Fentiman said the investment in the Mount Isa TAFE campus will continue to support quality training to meet the needs of this growing economy.
“More than $300,000 has been committed to the campus to upgrade the facilities to provide the best in training for students and staff,” Ms Fentiman said.
“The Palaszczuk Government is also undertaking regional planning to look at how we can prepare for the future skills needs and where investment is needed to ensure TAFE facilities offer modern and flexible learning environments.”
Ms Fentiman said they wanted young Queenslanders to have access to training and that’s why they have free TAFE training on offer for all year 12 graduates.
“Looking forward to a great year for Mt Isa TAFE next year and with the latest cohort of graduates considering what to do next year, I encourage them to consider the fantastic opportunities TAFE can provide,’ she said.
“There are 160 qualifications on offer for free to all year 12 graduates in Queensland, including 13 at the Mount Isa campus.”
Courses offered are in high priority industries such as Early Childhood, aged care, carpentry and engineering, with opportunities for exciting careers.
To be eligible for free Tafe, you must have completed Year 12 in Queensland and hold a Senior Statement issued by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority or equivalent certification, enrol and start an apprenticeship, traineeship or training with an approved training provider in a high priority qualification by 31 December the year after graduating, and permanently reside in Queensland.
Applicants are encouraged to think about what they want to study, what they are good at, what they care about and enjoy. They should also ask people about careers that interest them and seek career planning and advice.
