Police have made made a number of arrests and seized drugs worth more than half a million dollars after a big operation in Mount Isa, Cloncurry and other areas in the region.

Detective Acting Inspector Sean Wade from Crime/Support Services in the Mount Isa Police District said officers from a number of branches combined in the operation which had a result after six months on Thursday.
“Police from Mount Isa and Townsville District Tactical Crime Squads’, Far North Major Organised Crime Squad, Mount Isa Criminal Investigation Branch and Mount Isa Generals were involved in the execution of a number of warrants as a result of a six month investigation into the trafficking of the drug Ice in the Mount Isa Police District,” Det A/Insp Wade said.
“This culminated in the seizure of in excess of 700 grams of the drug Ice, in excess of 40gms of MDMA, 300 grams of cannabis, 4 grams of cocaine, LSD and a large quantity of steroids and other illegally obtained pharmaceutical drugs.”
Det A/Insp Wade said the combined drugs having a street value in excess of $500,000 and the operation led to the arrests of over 50 people.
“Over the course of this operation numerous search warrants were executed in both Cloncurry and Mount Isa which resulted in some 54 persons charged with in excess of 160 offences, including the trafficking, supply and possession of the dangerous drug ice,” he said.
“Investigators thank the Mount Isa and Cloncurry communities for the on-going support and the supply of information to help us in this continuing fight against drugs in our communities.”
The operation follows the successful year-long Operation Papa Journey which concluded in June with the arrest of 16 people with 32 drug offences targeting the supply of ice in Mount Isa.
