Mount Isa’s Cavaliers will be one of 200 cricket teams who will travel across the state to enter in the annual competition held from 26-28 of January.
Team skipper, Jason Wellington, said the Cavaliers hoped to win their three games while enjoying the weekend.
“We have entered in the Ashes several times over the last 10 years, once winning the B grade competition,” Mr Wellington said.
“Last year we didn’t win the competition, however we did win all our games. It would be nice to take out the competition again.”
As well as the competitive side to the game, Mr Wellington said the event was also a social occasion.
“We are a competitive team we go over for the cricket of course but we are also there for the social aspect and to have a little fun whilst having a good dig.
“It is great catching up with past members and friends and of course enjoying the beers.
Mr Wellington said he had been part of the Cavaliers team for seven years and it was hard to pinpoint one thing about the weekend that made it so special.
“My favourite time is when everyone rocks up to the Dawson’s Shed (our home for the weekend) the first night and just sitting round, spinning yarns, music's playing and the drinks are flowing. That's one of my favourite memories of the trip.
“We enjoy going back each year because we get to catch up with past members and bring over the new fellas so they can catch the Goldfield Ashes bug aswell.”
