The Mount Isa Pistol Club held their first shoot of the year on Sunday morning and welcomed four new shooters for the day.

Club secretary Mark Strain said the range is open every Sunday for ones who are interested in giving shooting a go.
“We start shooting at 9am and usually finish around lunch time or after,” Strain said.
“We are always looking to beef up our memberships.The Club would like to see more juniors and women come along this year,” Strain said.

Mr Strain said when interested ones come to the club they should be aware of the safety requirements.
“Wear enclosed shoes, comfortable clothing, and bring photo ID. We can supply the safety glasses and ear plugs.
The Pistol Club has been running for over 50 years and is a member of Pistol Shooting Queensland.

Shooting Australia is the governing body for all shooting sports.
“They’re the ones who pick people and send them to the Commonwealth Games or Olympics.”
In Mount Isa the Club has five disciples which are regulated by the governing body.
“These are Action Pistol, ISSF target pistol shooting events, IPC, Metallic Silhouette which is a series of target shooting matches and PA Matches which include Service Pistol, Service Pistol Unrestricted, Service Pistol 25 yard, 25m Black Powder and 50m Black Powder,” he said.
Mount Isa Pistol Club is one of the biggest pistol clubs outside of Brisbane.
