Her new role with North West Hospital and Health Service at Mount Isa Hospital is Director of Anaesthesia.
She is a specialist from the central coast of NSW with more than 18 years experience. Her job is to administer and monitor patients throughout their medical procedure and deal immediately with any problems that arise.
In November last year she relocated to Mount Isa with her husband.
“It was time for a change, to do something different,” Dr Keavy said.
“My husband is a fixed wing pilot and wanted to work for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
“He lived here previously for a number of years before following his airline career.
“We both like to add our contribution to the community and are looking forward to doing so in Mount Isa for a few years,” she said.
“I completed my Medical Degree at Sydney University, before moving north to tackle anaesthetic training at the John Hunter Private Hospital.
“I also spent six months training in Dublin at the Paediatric Hospital,” she said.
Since 2001 Dr Keavy worked as a Specialist on the central coast in both public and private hospitals.
“I provide anaesthesia and acute pain management for a wide range of surgical specialties like orthopaedics, Ear Nose and Throat (ENT), general surgery, gynaecology, ophthalmology and emergency surgery.
“I have a special interest in paediatrics and regional analgesia,” she said.
After spending a short two months in our city Dr Keavy has been impressed by the friendliness of the people across all walks of interaction.
“The team I work with is lovely.”
“Being a small hospital you get to know the team members quite quickly and not only that, you meet more people, not just in theatre but also in the wards, cafeteria and at reception as well,” she said.
