On Saturday night around 10.45pm Cloncurry Police located a reported stolen vehicle in Steele St, Cloncurry.
The driver was observed to be grossly intoxicated, and after a positive roadside breath test, was taken to the Police Station for a breath analysis.
The driver returned a reading of .323%, more than six times the legal limit, and admitted to consuming approximately seven litres of wine prior to driving.
The extreme danger caused by driving in this condition was compounded by the fact that the vehicle, a sedan not fitted with a bullbar nor any other protection, was driven at night 118km down the highway from Mount Isa to Cloncurry.
Cloncurry police said they were disappointed at the incident and the potential for a serious traffic incident wass significant.
A 42-year-old Mount Isa man will appear in the Cloncurry Magistrates Court on February 14.
Police said investigations are continuing into the alleged theft of the vehicle.
