The inquiry into the operation, regulation and funding of air route service delivery to rural, regional and remote communities will hear from Virgin and Alliance Airlines this week.
Cloncurry cheaper fares advocate Hamish Griffin has met his Go Fund Me objective and will be there.
He plans to show Virgin and Alliance examples of what he believes is price gouging activities by the airlines.
Mr Griffin has also created a change.org petition to “Get Qantas in Front of the Senate Committee Before the Federal Election”.
“Qantas are clearly stonewalling the inquiry,” Mr Griffin said. “They have been asked to appear before the committee on numerous occasions but have always declined.”
A Qantas spokesperson denied they were stonewalling and said they’ve let the committee know they plan to attend at another date.
“Senator Barry O’Sullivan has given comments to other media explaining that Qantas has had genuine reasons for not attending this Friday,” the spokesperson said.
Senator O’Sullivan told The Australian newspaper Monday they cannot compel airlines to attend the inquiry but Qantas had “valid reasons” the two times they turned down the invite.
