The committee announced the new event wouldn’t be any old trail runs, run against coastal backdrops or swam in the cool ocean waves, these runs would battle against the harsh outback elements and throw the dirt and dust in for free.
The Dirt n Dust committee explained the event as the perfect mix between a tough mudder and ninja warrior with a bit more fun. There will be 13 man-made and natural quirky outback obstacles, or competitiors can choose to just get out there and run.
The obstacles have been named: Mud Bath, Rock Run, Hurdles, Dirt Jumps, Creek run, Cargo net, Bog hole, Sand Bag Carry/water truck spray/aid station / Tyre gauntlet, Sink or Swim, Rope across creek, Croc Slide /And a Hay Bale Hurdle.
Aimed at solo runners and corporate teams that just want to experience an iconic outback festival, these runs will suit all levels of fitness.
- 7.30am start - 16km advanced
- 7.50am start - 11km intermediate
- 8.15am start - 5.5km - beginner standard, junior, corporate.
The Julia Creek Dirt n Dust Festival president Stephen Malone said the event was like no other.
"It will set a good challenge for athletes, a good time for families, and a good laugh for spectators," Mr Malone said.
“We’ve always prided ourselves on giving festival-goers an authentic outback experience and I believe that’s been a big drawcard in getting the likes of Lorna Jane to invest in our new adventure trail run.
"While you can go to a bull ride or a music concert in just about any city across Australia, it's not the same as being in the heartland of these traditions – in Julia Creek, it’s 100 per cent real and we look forward to sharing that with the new competitors and viewers all over the world."
