Birdsville Bakery posted this photo of the entrance to the town Thursday morning.
"Water has completely surrounded the town overnight and we have woken to this today," the Bakery said.
But no one seems particularly worried.
"Welcome to Birdsville.... our new Island paradise. Waterview blocks only $12000," the Bakery joked.
QFES Mount Isa Area Director Elliot Dunn said Birdsville could be cut off for a couple of weeks.
A flood warning is in place for the Diamantina River which flows through town.
Moderate flood levels are likely on the lower Diamantina River at Birdsville later this week though no significant rainfall is expected across the catchment area for at least the next few days.
Moderate to major flooding is continuing on the Diamantina River between Diamantina Lakes and Roseberth.
The Diamantina River at Birdsville is currently at 4.2m (minor flooding) and rising.
The Diamantina River at Birdsville is likely to exceed the moderate flood levels (6m) later this week.
Diamantina Mayor Geoff Morton said the area was in drought conditions despite the heavy rain further to the north.
"But water will give those who have the river a shot in the arm," Cr Morton said.
