Br Lou was overseas when the awards were presented on Australia Day but he attended the last Mount Isa City Council meeting along with all of the St Kieran's Year Sixes to accept his award.
Mount Isa Christian Brother Lou Walker was born Kevin Walker in Queenstown, New Zealand.
He took the name Aloysius when he became a brother over 60 years ago for Jesuit saint Aloysius de Gonzaga, a name shortened to Lou.
Br Lou has been a fixture of the Mount Isa community for more than 30 years and taught at St Kieran’s Catholic Primary School for more than three decades – even designing its logo, which is still in use to this day.

Although in semi-retirement, Br Walker still actively helps the primary school, such as with its Mother’s Day Fete, archives, school carnivals and even with the sprinkler system.
“Br Walker has taught several generations of students at St Kieran’s, and it’s a reflection of his spirit and character, as well as his dedication to the school community, that, even in semi-retirement, he’s still doing whatever he can to help out,” Mayor Joyce McCulloch said.
“He is gracious, obliging, humble and selfless, and is a most deserving recipient of this year’s Senior Citizen of the Year Award.”
