On Saturday, March 9, and Sunday, March 10, there will be no charge for the disposal of household and backyard waste at the Waste Management Facility.
The types of waste that will be accepted during this period include tyres (maximum of four per household), whitegoods, mattresses, scrap furniture, green waste, timber products, engine oil, batteries and general junk.
Residents can take their household and backyard waste directly to the Waste Management Facility, on Jessop Drive, where they will get free entry.
Council Director of Compliance and Utilities Services Jake Hart says the local focus for this year’s Clean Up Australia Day is to target satellite dumps and areas where illegal dumping and littering has taken place.
Mr Hart says the weekend amnesty is the perfect opportunity for Mount Isa residents to get rid of the rubbish and unnecessary clutter that is taking up space in their homes and yards and dispose of it at the Waste Management Facility for free.
Clean Up Australia Day is an annual, nationwide clean-up event that aims to empower communities, businesses, schools and youths to remove rubbish from the environment.
The Waste Management Facility is open from 7.30am to 4.45pm, seven days a week.
