This is the second year the campaign has run, with this year's focus on attracting travellers to outback Queensland.

Outback Queensland Tourism general manager Peter Homan said this was one of the disaster mitigation strategies in place following the flood.

"The Sunlover Holidays Discover Outback Queensland campaign is run through Helloworld, Rex Airlines and Qantas offering special flight deals, accommodation and tours to attend outback events like the Mount Isa Mines Rodeo, Julia Creek Dirt n Dust Festival and The Million Dollar Golf Hole," Mr Homan said.

"This campaign will bring money to the outback which is what we really need now to keep in industry growing."

Mr Homan said the best support for those affected by the flood is to take a trip out west this year.

"Outback Queensland is open for business. Come to the region because the more they can help and support the local businesses by staying in caravan parks, motels and hotels; the more they will benefit affected communities," he said.

"A lot of the graziers have connections with the local towns, they buy their produce and equipment locally or their wife might work in town. It helps everyone eventually and keeps those towns alive."

There are a variety of tours on the Outback Queensland Tourism website that suit a number of travel styles and journeys, including the famous Overlander’s Way.

The 1100 kilometre tour from Townsville to Mount Isa is focused on connecting the beach to the bush through a timeline of Australian history from the dinosaur era right through to Australia's pioneering past.

The tour travels through prime cattle country and offers "only-in-the-outback" moments with sunsets, gorges, and dinosaur remains to be witnessed.
