More than 700 people visited the Waste Management Facility over the weekend of the Mount Isa City Council's Amnesty on waste, a typical weekend sees about 120 customers attend the facility.

Residents took advantage of the amnesty by disposing of household rubbish such as tyres, general junk, whitegoods, scrap furniture and green waste for free.
In total, 123.5 tonnes of waste were disposed of, including 309 tyres, saving the community more than $3500.
Mount Isa Mayor Joyce McCulloch said with Clean Up Australia Day held earlier this month, the amnesty was the perfect opportunity for Mount Isa residents to get rid of the clutter and junk that they had around their residence.
“Our data show that all day on both Saturday and Sunday, there was a constant, virtually non-stop flow of vehicles visiting the facility throughout the entire day," Cr McCulloch said.
“We also thank residents for their patience and understanding, as the line at the weighbridge was often quite lengthy during the amnesty period.
“We are very pleased the community responded so positively and thank them for really getting behind the Waste Amnesty weekend the way that they did," she said.
