Tropical Cyclone Trevor continues to intensify as it moves towards the Cape York Peninsula, reaching a category 3 intensity in the early hours of Tuesday morning (March 19).

Currently located 20 kilometres off the Queensland coast, the cyclone will continue moving in a west-southwest direction and is expected to cross the coast south of Lockhart River on Tuesday evening.
TC Trevor will weaken as it crosses the northern Peninsula tonight and Wednesday, but may remain a category 1 cyclone until it enters the Gulf of Carpentaria later on Wednesday.
It is expected to re-intensify in the Gulf to a category 2 cyclone on Friday March 22 before tracking south west.
The chance of rain for Mount Isa and the North West has increased, following the extension of the cyclone tracking map.
The Bureau of Meteorology predicts the Gulf of Carpentaria could see rain from as early as Friday March 22 with a 50 percent chance of 10mm and a top temperature of 36 degrees.
The chance of rain strengthens in the following days with Saturday March 23 expecting a 50 percent chance of 30mm and a top of 32 degrees.
Sunday March 24 predicts 70 percent chance of 40mm and a top of 31 degrees.
Monday March 25 could see 60 percent chance of 20mm and a top of 31 degrees.
Mount Isa could see a chance of a afternoon shower from Saturday March 23 as temperatures drop to 35 degrees and partly cloudy conditions.
Sunday March 24 predicts a slight chance of rain with party cloudy conditions and a top of 34 degrees.
The chance of rain increases early next week, with Monday March 25 increasing to 40 percent chance of rain and a top of 32 degrees.
