Its eventful journey has seen it dump rain on the Lockhart River and Cooktown ares of Cape York when it made landfall the first time as a category 3.
It weakened before regaining strength in the Gulf of Carpentaria and made landfall a second time near Borroloola in the Northern Territory as a Category 4, its plus 250 kph winds causing mass evacuations from the NT coastline to Katherine and Darwin.
It is now officially, :Ex-tropical cyclone Trevor and it is swinging back eastward and likely to bring much-needed rain to parched parts of western Queensland.
It moved east-southeast from the Barkly district in the Northern Territory into the Channel Country overnight Sunday.
Six-hourly rainfall totals between 50mm and 80mm are likely
The low pressure system is expected to interact with an amplifying upper trough to produce bands of heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Damaging to possibly destructive wind gusts are also expected to develop on the eastern flank of the low.
Widespread six-hourly rainfall totals between 50mm and 80mm are likely within the warning area from Monday afternoon or evening and isolated heavier rainfall totals up to 120mm are possible with thunderstorms between Urandangi and Bedourie.
Isolated damaging wind gusts up to 100 km/h are possible for areas west of Boulia during Monday evening and early Tuesday morning. Locally destructive wind gusts in excess of 125 km/h are possible with embedded thunderstorms.
A Flood Watch is current for the western Gulf Country, Channel Country and extends into the Maranoa and Warrego catchments.
Locations which may be affected include Boulia, Bedourie, Urandangi, Davenport Downs Station, Morney and Brighton Downs.
Mount Isa will mostly miss out on the falls though the forecast for Tuesday is for cloudy weather and a a high (70%) chance of showers and the chance of a thunderstorm.
The chance of more rain diminishes later in the week.
