In confidential reports of the MICC meeting on March 13, councillor Paul Stretton and Jean Ferris moved the motion to grant Sunshine Coast-based Hans Heystraten Handyman and Carpentry Services the $397,284 tender, subject to providing builders' regulatory certification documentation to complete the works at the old pound facility at 21 Richardson Road.
Mayor Joyce McCulloch said the upgrade of the Animal Management Facility would greatly improve standards, increase the facility's capacity and better service the community.
"The new facility will house exercise yards for animals in our care, a dog training yard, visitor/volunteer stay over sites and an overall upgrade of the existing facilities," Cr McCulloch said.
"The design has been finalised and is currently in the procurement stage, and it is proposed that construction will start in the coming weeks.
Cr McCulloch said Council received multiple inquiries about the available tender.
"Council received a lot of inquiries, mostly from local contractors, about the project and a lot of interest was shown, but only two tenders were received," she said.
Cr McCulloch said the timeline and completion date of the facility should be finalised once construction work starts.
The project is funded by Council's successful application for $440,000 from the State Government's Works for Queensland program, stage 2.
Also approved in confidential business in the same meeting was the City Streets Bitumen Resurfacing Works tender package.
As part of council's ongoing and annual resealing program, bitumen sealing tenders were called for around 62,450 square metres of city-based streets and roads.
Council carried the motion to grant RPQ Spray Seal to complete the tender works that amount to $271,118.80 (excluding GST) this was moved by councillor Mick Tully and seconded by councillor Jean Ferris.
