Around 3am Saturday March 23 an alleged young group of boys vandalised Mount Isa businesses including KFC Mount Isa, Bell and Moir Toyota and Kmart Plaza.
KFC acting store manager, Julie Newman, said the 213 graffiti was written in spray paint on the building, storage container, drive-through concrete, menu and speaker box.
"It doesn't make the image of your business look very good until you can get someone into clean it," Ms Newman said.
"When I came into the shop at 6am Monday morning I just thought here we go again.
"Unfortunately it is not as simple as getting paint stripper to get it off. We need to provide a quote to police to be cleaned and repainted and at the moment we are estimating it to have cost us about $2000."
Ms Newman supplied surveillance camera footage to Mount Isa Police and investigations are ongoing.
Mount Isa Officer in Charge Senior Sergeant Renee Hanrahan said victims of these wilful damages offences need to report the offence.
"Residents need to call Policelink on 131 444 for non-urgent crime, not happening now. Policelink generate a crime report, which is sent to the relevant station for follow-up and investigation," Sgt Hanrahan said
"It is important to report graffiti vandalism to police as resourcing and patrol activities are allocated based on reported crime."
"Wilful Damage Graffiti is considered a misdemeanor under Queensland law, and persons can be liable, if no other punishment is provided, to imprisonment for five years.
"When graffiti crime is reported and an offender has been identified, graffiti removal programs exist. A young graffiti offender can be sent to a graffiti removal program either by the court, police or via youth justice processes. Otherwise, removal unfortunately sits with the property owner."
