The Maxi Races committee made an early call to cancel their April race meeting, due to incomplete infrastructure works and many committee members being personally affected.
Secretary Susan Bellingham said the committee were in the process of installing permanent shade shelters for spectators and other infrastructure as part of the venue requirements.
"We were successful in receiving infrastructure grant through Stronger Communities Program and we planned to get the works completed before the race meeting, but the flood changed that," Ms Bellingham said.
"On top of this committee members were also dealing with flood damage on their own proprieties and trying to bury dead cattle.
"We cancelled the event with mixed emotions. There was relief for those on properties but we also felt the event would be something the community needed."
Ms Bellingham said between 26 to 30 inches fell in the Maxwelton region but damage at the grounds remains unknown.
"Unfortunately I haven't been to the grounds yet to assess the damage," she said.
"However some reports are that the track has minimal damage but to be honestly we haven't had the opportunity to go up there and assess it properly."
"Queensland Racing will travel to Maxwelton in early April to inspect the track and any damage caused by the flood."
In the meantime Mount Isa Race Club will host the Maxi Race event on April 6.
Gates will open at 11am and host five local races, with the first race starting at 2pm.
Gate entry is $10 for non-members.
