Vern and Frank Daisy, both famous for Foley Shield exploits, will manage the Linmar Mount Isa Allstars when they take on the Australian Legends in a one off Legends of League charity game in Mount Isa next month.
For the moment Vern is away in Townsville but brother Frank still lives in Mount Isa and was at the game launch last week.
When asked what was the secret of beating an Australian Legends team that will contain the likes of Scotty Prince, Matt Bowen, Willy Tonga and Ashley Harrison, Frank laughed and said:
"Keep doing what they know they do best."
The Mount Isa side will feature greats from the local clubs plus the likes of Robbie Katter and Mick Tully, so the Daisy Brothers' work might be cut out.
Now retired from the mines, Frank said he had great memories of his times playing rep footy. "I haven't played in about 12 years I retired when I was 51, that was long enough," he said.
When asked about the fearsome reputation both Daisy brothers had on the field, he replied, "that's the way football was played in those days."
"There was nothing soft about the game in the days when we played," he said.
Frank played for Wanderers in Mount Isa and then went on to coach the Warriors that was the last team from Cloncurry to win the premiership until the Eagles won in 2016.
