The event was held at the Mount Isa Campdraft grounds on Bendall Drive on Sunday March 31, with a promising start to the season with 26 participants taking part.
MICA treasurer and events coordinator Leeusha Green said it was a good number allowing all to have a decent amount of time with the riding instructors.
"The day touched on basic fundamentals of campdrafting and how to get your horse thinking the right way before entering in a competition," Ms Green said.
"We had a variety of skilled riders who were interested in learning more and improving their technique."
Ms Green said instructors also showed riders the different ways to get a horse working correctly without access to cattle.
"We had a mechanical cow, which was some cloth on a rope that moved back and forth for the horse to track. It taught the horse how to flow back more smoothly and tracking your beast to the right speed," she said.
"Campdrafting can be a dangerous sport in some chances, so we tried to show people how to avoid those situations to make sure everyone is safe.
"The come and try day was a good opportunity to raise awareness for the sport and the grounds we offer out members and to local competitors warming their horses up ahead of the campdraft season."
Mount Isa Campdraft attempt to host a come and try day each month with all new riders welcome.
The come and try day costs riders $20 to cover insurances.
