Alison Whitehead from North West Canoe Club said teams are starting to roll in.
"The TC2 Challenge is always highly contested with teams of up to eight people looking for bragging rights, but there is still time to register so if you want to be part of the action, grab some friends, find a Canadian Canoe and start practicing," Whitehead said.
This year paddlers are coming from far and near.
"People are travelling from Queensland, South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and as far away as Western Australia."
"There is a team of seven coming from South Australia with a land crew of three.
"I think it's quite amazing for people to travel that far to such a remote race," she said.
One stand-up paddle boarder has registered from Townsville making this the second year in a row that this style of board has been maneuvered through the challenging race.
Whitehead said Joel from Adventurethon in Townsville is coming out for the race.
"He has a number of single and double plastic sit-on-top kayaks available for hire. You can contact him on 0447 496 489 if you are looking for a kayak," she said.
Registration for the event closes on Sunday April 28 at 4pm.
The Gregory Canoe race will be held on the weekend of May 4-5.
