Due to February's weather events the Maxi Races committee made and early decision to cancel their annual race meeting and move it to Mount Isa.
Mount Isa Race Club president Mick Tully said they were happy to take on the Maxi Races and it was a great turn out.
"We had between 400-500 racegoers witness some great racing and a enjoy a social gathering," Mr Tully said.
"I approached Queensland Racing after the flood event and said if any club couldn't host their event this year we would be happy to accommodate that meeting.
"Unfortunately Maxwelton track wasn't up to scratch for their annual meeting, so we opted to have it here."
Mr Tully said Boulia race meeting was also cancelled due to similar circumstances and it would be held in Mount Isa on April 20.
"I didn't want those race meetings to leave our region," he said.
"If we don't have those events we lose that race meeting for our industry.
"Some locals heavily rely on these race meetings because for some people that is their livelihood."
