Madeleine grew up on a cattle station north of Cloncurry where her family was directly affected by the weather phenomenon in February, wiping out hundreds of thousands of cattle and sheep in the region.
Madeleine now resides in Melbourne, but still holds strong ties to North Queensland.
Madeleine said she still has a connection to the bush and it would always be where she belongs.
"My family kept me informed as the devastation unfolded. Being that I am a songwriter, it's no surprise that these strong feelings of sadness and helplessness produced a song," she said.
"This natural disaster is not a prominent topic of conversation in the city. I want to generate awareness and urge people to help in any small way they can.
'The Flood' was a collaborative effort between Madeleine and Adam Castle. It's about accepting the cards we've been dealt, comradery in tragedy and never relinquishing hope.
All proceeds of the song will go to Cloncurry based charity Sisters of the North.
'The Flood' is available for purchase through CD Baby and will soon be available on iTunes.
