Mr Hackwell, who turns 75 today, is running for Fraser Anning's Conservative National Party and says he is just an ordinary retired senior concerned about the way things are heading.
"I strongly believe in the things Fraser Anning is trying to achieve because it is so important for Australia's future, so even though I don't have political experience I put my hand up for Fraser," he said.
Mr Hackwell, a former teacher and businessman, lives in the Lockyer Valley between Brisbane and Toowomba, which is around 1500km from the Kennedy electorate.
"As Kennedy is such a large electorate this should not be an issue as I would be covering big distances anyway," he said.
Mr Hackwell said he "fully backed" Fraser Anning's polices but would not elaborate on what they were.
"I'm not going into his policies, they are listed and I agree entirely with them," he said.
Senator Anning was elected first from Pauline Hanson's One Nation in 2017 following the High Court dismissal of Malcolm Robert.
But on election he decamped before dabbling with the Katter's Australian Party, an alliance which also ended quickly in acrimony after his "final solution" speech.
When asked about Senator Anning's more extreme views such as banning Muslim immigration, Mr Hackwell agreed with it saying Islamic ideology was "dangerous" and incompatible with the Australian way of life.
When asked why should people vote for him Mr Hackwell replied, "people should vote for Fraser Anning not so much for me."
"I think it is extremely important people study Fraser's policies," he said.
"Immigration, overpopulation of the world, environmental problems caused by overpopulation, we're in big trouble."
The North West Star asked Senator Anning's office about how a drop-in candidate from South East Queensland would know about issues affecting our region but did not get a response.
