More than 40 youth are taking part in Project Streetwise which will help them create a pop-up restaurant displaying a variety of new-found lifestyle skills.
Project Streetwise was developed by Brettlyn Neal aka Beaver Brophy.
When not boxing for Fred Brophy, Ms Neal is the founder of the Australian Social Engagement and Wellbeing Academy which endevours to educate and encourage youth in remote communities about the positive benefits of good health and nutrition, to encourage sports and fitness goals and promote mental, social and overall wellbeing.
"We deliver seven workshops in Project Streetwise and the program is run over six months," Ms Neal said.
"Besides educating participants on topics such as nutrition, drugs and alcohol awareness, domestic violence and healthy relationships, we engage them in lifestyle activities."
Project Streetwise delivers a series of workshops including photography, sustainable living, music and culture activities, bikes and billy carts, jewellery making, multimedia, dress making and cookery.
"After six months, the culmination of all these workshops is a pop-up restaurant, and within that restaurant is everything the youth have learned. It will all be on display," Ms Neal said.
"The participants will have produced, prepared and cooked the food and the entertainment will be the short movies they have made, cultural dances and displays of other art and crafts."
Ms Neal said ASEWA develops a cultural profile of the needs of each community they visit and establishes links with vital partners within the community before they arrive and throughout the duration of the Project.
"We collaborate with local stakeholders and families and visit the local schools to encourage education engagement," she said.
"If they don't attend school, they don't get to be part of the Project. School is an important aspect of everyday life."
The Project plays a vital role in the overall positive health and wellbeing of an individual, and ultimately the community.
The Streetwise Project in Doomadgee goes until June.
