Deputy Mayor Phil Barwick said Council had received a lot of positive feedback in response to the first waste amnesty and had listened to suggestions from community members about holding another amnesty weekend that would be better suited to shift workers.
"For this reason, the next amnesty weekend will be held on Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2," Cr Barwick said.
"This is the perfect opportunity for people to tidy up their homes and yards and get rid of everything they no longer want or need, and dispose of it at the Waste Management Facility for free.
"With the Waste Levy to be implemented from July 1, Council wanted to offer the community another chance to de-clutter and clean up their properties.
"The first waste amnesty was extremely well-received, and we hope all residents support and make the most of the upcoming amnesty weekend just as much as they did the first."
The waste that will be eligible for the amnesty weekend includes white goods, mattresses, scrap furniture, green waste, timber products, tyres (maximum of four per household), engine oil, batteries, rubble and general junk.
The first amnesty weekend saved the community more than $3500, with a total of 700 people visiting the Waste Management Facility over both days, disposing of more than 123 tonnes of waste and 309 tyres. The facility normally records about 120 customers on a typical weekend.
Council appreciates the public's opinion during busy periods of the amnesty weekend. For more information, call Council's Customer Services Department on 4747 3200.
