At the time of writing the Coalition has 74 seats and Labor 66 with one Green and four others including Mr Katter who re-elected for the 10th time, with a comfortable majority in the seat of Kennedy.
Mr Katter thanked his staff after his win.and put his increased majority to his improvement in the suburbs of Cairns, having come from third to first in the last couple of elections.
"It's a magnificent victory for us," Mr Katter said.
Mr Katter, who has held the massive seat since 1993 had a 1.5pc swing taking 39.8pc of the vote.
Second was Frank Beveridge of the LNP with 27.0pc, and 15,104 down 5.6pc on 2016.
Third was Labor's Brett McGuire who took 18.3pc and 10,321 votes down 1.3pc on last time.
UAP's Sue Bertuch finished fourth with 6.7pc, the Greens Lyle Burness was fifth with 5.6pc and Ian Hackwell of Fraser Anning got 2.6pc.
Mr Katter won it in a two party preferred of 63.4pc to 36.6pc against the LNP.
