Over 6000 people crammed every vantage point of Alec Inch Oval on Saturday for the first ever Legends of League game in Mount Isa.
Legends of the game such as Matt Bowen, Chris Walker, Peter Gill, Nathan Blacklock, John Hopoate, Noel Goldthorpe, Willie Tonga, John Doyle (now an Isa resident but lining up against them) Craig Teevan, Ben Hannant and Terry Matterson played for the Australian Legends.
Opposing them for the Mount Isa Linmar All Stars were greats from the local game included Broncos legend Scotty Prince alongside Paul Harkin, Dave Bartolo, David "Frog" Hudson, Charles Hill, Kerrod Gibson, Gavin Bunney, Cameron Conlan, Scott Kyle, Chris Thinee, Darren Munns, Brian Gull, Reg Nardoo and Tony Schaefer with cameos from Traeger MP Robbie Katter and Cr Mick Tully.
The Legends may be slow on their feet (though a lithe Willie Tonga,37, looked like he could still play NRL) but they showed they've still got the magic with great passing and movement and it was all the brave All Stars could do to stay level which they did for much of the first half.
Matty Bowen put on some mango madness to waltz through defenders to earn a man of the match performance and the All Stars scooted away to win by 20 points before all the fans were invited onto the field to meet their heroes.
