There is no need to waste time and effort planning a tour only to discover you've overspent unnecessarily or missed something really vital.
North West Tours offers specialised guided tours of the Mount Isa region which means visitors get to enjoy the amazing sights and activities the area has to offer in safety and comfort.
The tour company has been operating since 2016 due to a lack of tours being offered in and around Mount Isa.
It was the brainchild of the owners of Adels Grove - a scenic camping and accommodation ground near Lawn Hill Gorge.
"Tourism numbers in the outback are increasing and as a community we need to embrace the opportunities that that provides to our community," said senior guide Philip Cochrane.
"By utilising a professional guide you're giving yourself the opportunity to hear many stories and facts about this amazing area."
There are presently five staff involved in the tour company who work as guides and in administration.
North West Tours are currently seasonal, but Philip said that the business plan is to see some of the tours operate all year round.
"This is an opportunity to anyone local who has family visiting to showcase the best of Mount Isa with a professional guided tour."
There are several tours available:
- Mount Isa City Tour - a guided interpretative tour of the current liveability and attractions of the city including the sophisticated air-monitoring system, transport links and events.
- Mount Isa Heritage & History Tour - a guided tour of the old cemetery, Casa Grande, city clock and Underground Hospital.
- Lake Moondarra Sunset Tour - a look at the city from the lookout pre and post sunset, drinks and nibbles at the lake as we watch the sun go down.
- Mary Kathleen Tour - an informative guided tour of the old abandoned mine and township with many interesting facts and stories.
- Adels Grove 3 day/2 night fully guided tour to Lawn Hill National Park and World Heritage listed Riversleigh Fossil Field.
North West Tours is fully accredited with the Australian Tourism Accreditation Program and is actively involved with supporting many organisations within the community.
Prior to its establishment, Mount Isa had no local tours to offer the passing tourists in the region.
"Mount Isa is a culturally diverse community with woven history of stories of people and ingenuity" said Philip. "Delivering these stories to visitors to our city is rewarding."
