The largest biennial mining conference in eastern Australia opens Thursday May 30 at Buchanan Park with a trade-only day followed by two days where it is open to the general public, including a first ever Saturday opening.
Speaking on Monday Travis Crowther, president of event organiser Commerce North West, said everything was almost ready for the big opening. "Final preparations are getting done and it's all go from there, the exhibitors will start bumping in from tomorrow (Tuesday), with 80 inside and another 20 or so outside," Mr Crowther said.
"Thursday is the buyers only day and probably the main day for the exhibitors and there will be guests from Mount Isa Mines, Mount Isa City Council and Cloncurry Shire Council and other surrounding mines and we'll match them up with exhibitors."
Friday and Saturday is open to the public and Mr Crowther said the Saturday day was from feedback from previous exhibitions where people said they couldn't attend on week days.
There's a mix of old and exhibitors attending.
"There's out of the box thinking from the likes of Jayco bringing caravans and while it's not technically mining, they see this as an opportunity to talk to people about other products," Mr Crowther said.
The trade only day kicks off with an industry breakfast at 7am at the Buffs before the action moves to Buchanan Park at 10am for the official opening performed by Glencore North Queensland Copper Assets Chief Operating Officer Matt O'Neill.
The meet the buyer and business matching appointments will go from 10am to noon and from 1-4pm.
There will also be guest speakers from representatives from Lockwood, Capricorn Copper, Aeon Metals, Port of Townsville and Multicom.
Doors open to the general public on Friday (10am-6pm) and Saturday (10am to 3pm) and entry is free.
Entry is also free to the concert and fireworks at the Rodeo Arena forecourt from 5pm Saturday with Newcastle band Hurricane Fall topping the bill supported by Pacific Groove and Bulldust.
