Over 1500 riders took to the track at the country's premier BMX event in late May, travelling from every state and territory, looking for a national title or a coveted 'A' plate that is awarded to a finalist in each age category.
The 13-year-old Woodward, who attends Spinifex Junior school, began the week by qualifying through to the final of the boy's 13-14yrs cruiser event, before crashing and finishing eighth.
The courageous Mount Isa teen then took out the 3A plate and the bronze medal in the 13 years boy's 20 inch race, finishing just centimetres behind the silver medal winning rider and one spot ahead of the rider that finished sixth at last year's world championships in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Island BMX Club president David Logan said Bill did really well. "He got eighth overall in the cruisers, the 24 inch bikes, and got third for his year," Mr Logan said.
The club hosts the Far North Queensland championships June 29.
