Local resident Amy Ericson took a plunge two years ago, opening her very own retail store and she hasn't looked back.
Amy works hard every day to ensure other locals have a beautiful, affordable and inspiring place right in the very heart of Mount Isa to shop for themselves, their homes and for special gifts.
"I definitely enjoy the people the most and being able to greet and get to know the people, both locals and travellers, that come through our doors," Amy said.

After taking a year away from her full-time job in town following the birth of her son, Amy said she was hesitant to return to regular employment.
"I wanted a job that allowed me some flexibility for my young family, that would allow me to be creative and hands-on and I wanted a job that drew on my knowledge and experience in the retail industry."
So Amy set about creating Desert Luxe - a welcoming store specialising in women's fashion, accessories such as shoes, watches and jewellery, homewares, soft furnishings, art works, decorator pieces, furniture, lighting, bedding and much more, all sourced from the best Australian and International brands.
Amy had noticed an opening in the retail landscape in the town centre and took the opportunity to bring some of the best Australian and international brands in homewares, fashion, furniture and accessories to Mount Isa.
Desert Luxe is an owned and operated family business and Amy works closely with her mum and sister and her little helper, daughter Ivy who is seven-months-old.
"I'm also really lucky to have my dad living here in town so he pops in to help with babysitting duties during the day," Amy said.
To top it off, Amy's husband has a work office right upstairs.
Amy has had a lot of experience in the retail industry from her time living in Brisbane, allowing her to bring knowledge and understanding of trending brands and styles to outback Australia.
Desert Luxe has also been hands on in the community since opening with involved with charity involvement including the Royal Flying Doctors Service, the Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo and so much more.
