The competition will include Mount Isa boys and girls between the ages of 0-13 years who can best represent what Outback means to them.
The Outback Prince and Princess will replace the Miss Showgirl competition in this year's show program, and take place on Friday June 24 in Buchanan Park at 10am.
Competition organiser Lesley-Ann Peterson said the competition was designed for the kids to dress up and have a bit of fun.
"This year's theme is 'Outback' so we would like to see the kids dress up and display what Outback means to them," Ms Peterson said.
"They could wear a pair of Blundstones with pink stockings, a tutu and a cowboy hat; whatever Outback means to those children."
The competition is broken up into three age groups including 0-4 years, 5-8 years, 9-13 years with three placings for each category. An overall champion will also be crowned.
Ms Peterson said judges would be looking for children who can best represent Outback Queensland.
"We are looking for a child who is enthusiastic about where they live," she said.
"I am hoping parents will get into the theme, and help the children represent what the Outback means to them."
Three local judges will crown the Princes or Princesses with $1000 in prizes up for grabs.
"Prizes include Kmart vouchers, Proud's vouchers, flowers, sashes, tiaras and crowns and more," Ms Peterson said.
"The children will be judged on Friday and winners will be announced after each category."
Entry costs five dollars with all money being donated to Hospital Auxiliary for Cancer Care Unit.
Interested parents and children can enter the competition by submitting a form before Friday 9am.
Forms are available from the Mount Isa Show Society office at Buchanan Park or by emailing lesley-ann@mcbaccounting.com
