But Voss is undecided whether he'll pitch for the vacant head coaching jobs at North Melbourne and Carlton.

Voss, currently a Port Adelaide assistant coach, says he's better prepared for the role now than when appointed as Brisbane's head coach in 2009.

He held the Lions' coaching job for five years but says his decorated playing career with Brisbane helped land him that job.

"More my name won me me first role. I'm hoping that skill sets win me my second," Voss told reporters on Tuesday.

"There's no doubt that clearly my name was an influencing factor to the last time around.

"The time (since) has been spent to try and ... make yourself better at what you do and hopefully it's for different purposes this time."

The 43-year-old has yet to be approached by North, who split with Brad Scott three weeks ago, or Carlton, who axed Brendon Bolton a fortnight ago.

Asked whether he would apply at either club, Voss said: "We will worry about that when that comes to it. It's certainly not on the radar as I speak today.

"Right now, you have got to appreciate that it's a public nomination only.

"There has been no process has been followed through on nothing that I have certainly heard of.

"So until that does (change), for me it's about the job that I have got and doing the best that you possibly can."

Voss was adamant he was more capable now than a decade ago for a head coaching role.

"Of course you think that you are going to be better," he said.

"I am pleased that there is a conversation in the industry right now around experience and the benefit of what that looks like ... I don't think we have had that conversation for a very long time.

"I frame it a little bit like you're a 19-year-old player and at 200 games you're different.

"You know more, you have learnt more, you learn more leadership, you learn more what you value and what you don't, it is gained over a period of time.

"It's a very hard one to say 'what are those specifics' because we're looking at 10 years of time that has passed from the time that I stepped in to where I am now."
