At 2.40am on Sunday June 16, police were patrolling Abel Smith Parade when they allegedly observed a man striking another man multiple times, with a length of timber.
It is further alleged that when police activated the emergency vehicle's lights and siren, the man fled and was later located under a house and placed under arrest.
The victim sustained a significant laceration to his scalp, requiring multiple sutures.
A 23-year-old Townview man has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm while armed.
He has been remanded in custody to appear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on June 19.
