Magistrate Morton left Mount Isa in mid May and relocated to the Whitsundays after two years in the position.
A replacement is yet to be appointed with Acting Magistrate Richard Lehmann taking the bench in the meantime.
The North West Star contacted the Attorney-General's office about when a new magistrate could be appointed but forwarded our enquiry to the Office of the Chief Magistrate of Queensland.
When a Chief Magistrate spokesperson responded they said, "there have been discussions in relation to the current vacancy in Mount Isa. Any new appointment will be made by the Attorney-General at a date of her choosing.
"The Chief Magistrate meets regularly with the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice to discuss matters relating to the Magistrates Court of Queensland, including magisterial vacancies and appointments."
This follows the recent announcement of newly appointed magistrates for Queensland on June 13.
Three new magistrates were appointed to Bundaberg, Caboolture, Ipswich and Beaudesert courts.
