The fire broke out Friday afternoon and at least three QFEs units are on the scene of the fire around 2.30pm.
The fire has mostly affected the long grass in the back paddock, which is the second and least used field of the rugby grounds at Alma St.
The fire is also affecting the nearby Leichhardt river bank and the fencing that adjoins the main ground.
The main field rugby ground appears to have been spared and there is no damage to the rugby sheds which are at the other end of the ground to the fire.
