Centred around an RACQ Get Ready free microchipping program and Council supplied desexing discount vouchers, Pet Day will celebrate pet appreciation and responsible animal ownership with a fashion show and photo competitions.
Mayor Joyce McCulloch said Council had partnered with all three Mount Isa vets and a number of pet care providers to facilitate free pet checks, stalls, food and refreshments and wonderful prizes.
"There are so many of us in the community who love our pets and this day is a way to celebrate them, as well as encouraging people to become more responsible pet owners, by issuing free microchipping vouchers and discount desexing," Cr McCulloch said.
"I encourage everyone to come along and have some fun and recognise the special role our pets play in our lives."
Registrations for the pet photo competition and pet fashion show are now open on the Council website: www.mountisa.qld.gov.au/pet-day
To obtain a free microchipping voucher, owners will need to bring photo ID and animal registration numbers. The same conditions apply to desexing vouchers, with only one desexing voucher issued per household. Numbers of both vouchers will be limited.
Animal registration payments can also be processed on the day.
The Pet Day festivities begin at 9am on Saturday July 20, wrapping up at 12pm.
Registration for the Doggie Hair and Fashion competition closes at 9.45am on the day, with judging starting at 10am. For more information, contact Council on 4747 3200.
