Luke Chaplain, 29, is no stranger to the North West rodeo circuit having many victories under his belt, but will challenge himself further in the coming months by competing abroad.
Chaplain plans to build his rodeo career by competing in as many rodeos as possible while in Canada and America.
"I have some really good contacts over there who I will compete and learn off, from August until the end of the year." he said.
"I'll then weigh up my options and make a decision then if I stay over in America to do the full rodeo circuit, or return home."
Before traveling overseas, Chaplain will compete at Quamby Rodeo, Cloncurry Merry Muster Festival and Mount Isa Mines Rodeo and believes this is his year to take out all competitions.
"I have a lot to progress and lots to learn, but I have self-belief that I can beat anyone," he said.
"I am two year reigning champion at Quamby and I hope to continue that title again this year.
"My ideal goal is to win any rodeo I enter in and maybe win an APRA (Australian Professional Rodeo Association) Australian Title."
This year Chaplain has already placed second at Saxby Round-Up and won Normanton Rodeo.
"Normanton Rodeo was where it all started for me 10 years ago," he said.
"2009 Normanton Rodeo I was working at Boomarra Station and BJ Shepherd put me on a horse and said "squeeze your legs and hold onto this".
"So I came out for four seconds and got wedged on my head and got the whip tangled around me but I had an absolute ball and have been riding since."
Some of Chaplain's biggest achievements included winning APRA Rookie Australian Title, National Rodeo Council (NRC) Open Australian Title and touring Australian rodeo circuits in southern states.
