The open day, which will be held at the Centre for Rural and Remote Health, will provide the community with the university's course and career information.
Centre for Rural and Remote Health associate professor Catrina Felton-Busch said they had held the event for four years but had changed the view slightly for this year's event.
"We wanted to have an activity to raise awareness about the opportunities that JCU offers," Ms Felton-Busch said.
"We started by targeting high school students, but over the years we have grown it to an open day for the community to come and interact and enquire about the courses we have available.
"This is an opportunity for anyone interested in going to university, to have a bit more hands knowledge about what those careers might look like."
Ms Felton-Busch said the open day was expanded to cater for mature aged students.
"We wanted to encourage people who may have been thinking about a career change," she said.
"So for someone coming out of mining for example, they can come and get some information from course coordinators and discuss any course prerequisites."
This year's event has also been expanded for the wider community, with JCU inviting other organisations to participate.
"We realised that in past years we had concentrated on health but there are many other career paths available with JCU and wanted to showcase them too," Ms Felton- Busch said.
"We have also invited TAFE Queensland, Mount Isa Mines, NW Veterinary Clinic and the Centre for Learning and Wellbeing, who will be available to share information about course and career opportunities within their organisations and industries.
"This year the event is more of a partnership with the community and lovely feature that has been added this year."
The 2019 JCU Open Day will be held at Tjirtamai Hall on Tuesday July 23 between 4:30pm and 6:30pm.
