Founded over 40 years ago, Mount Isa Meals on Wheels provides service with a smile to more then 55 clients five days a week.
Meals on Wheels volunteer Bob Bentley said the non-for-profit organisation was in desperate need of helpers.
"We deliver meals Monday to Friday and are asking for people to assist across two sections," Mr Bentley said.
"The first is the kitchen, where we are short of kitchen hands to assist with the preparation of meals from 8am to 11am. This includes pealing spuds, chopping up pumpkin, making sweets and cakes and generally helping the cook.
"The second is the delivery, requiring what we call a driver and a runner from 10.30am to 12 noon. Using their own vehicles one volunteer drives while the other delivers the meals to clients."
Mr Bentley said it wasn't many hours work to provide an essential service for some locals.
"Upon delivery I would help one lady sit up in the bed and open the top of the meal for her and she would hook straight into it," he said.
"You know you're helping people out who need it and the delivery volunteers get to meet the clients and build a friendship with them and it is really nice.
"It is also nice to keep an eye on them. If they have any health problems we can advise them to seek help but there have been other times we have had to call ambulances for them
"They are all grateful and love having a chat and sometimes will make you a cup of tea."
If anyone is interested in volunteering, they can contact Bob on 0428 721 296 or the kitchen on 4743 0630.
