18 local riders from the Mount Isa Chapter will leave on July 21 to attend Sturgis bike week in western south Dakota.
Mount Isa Harley Owners Group director Tony Moloney, said attending Sturgis was part of a months ride through America.
"We land in Los Angeles and hire bikes and travel through Arizona, doing Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley then up through Denver into South Dakota and onto Sturgis," Mr Moloney said.
"We then have five days at Sturgis with exhibits, live bands, bars, parties and competitions.
"From there we head back down to San Francisco and back down the coast road to Los Angeles."
Mr Moloney said the HOGs started planning the trip three years ago.
"We then had to book accommodation two years before the event due to popular demand expecting over 500,000 patrons this year," he said.
"We then started organising our itinerary. Russell Holdsworth had been over to America a few times so he worked out the road trip and then together we worked out our stops."
Mr Moloney said it had been a big task but well worth the wait.
"It is going to be a lot of fun having so many people from such a small chapter here in Mount Isa to commit to the trip," he said.
Mount Isa Hogs leave Mount Isa on July 21 and return on August 21.
