Boulia race track was packed to the rafters on Saturday for the first of two days of the "Melbourne Cup of Camel Racing" with 400m heats for the big 1600m Boulia Cup on Sunday.
Traditional favourites such as Uncle Bob and Hookemup vied with newcomers such as Hajime who won last weekend's Bedourie Cup for honours.
As well as the racing there were novelty events on the track and everyone's favourite camel tagging where contestants risked a swift kick in the backside while trying to tag and untag a camel in the fastest time.
Country star Travis Collins entertained the crowd on Saturday night.
