The mural is being painted by Sydney artist Mulga, and its design will have native flora and fauna, including black and white cockatoos, corellas, kangaroos, crocodiles, goannas, bottlebrushes, frangipanis and wattles.
Mulga started the big task on Tuesday afternoon, July 23, and said he should have it finished in about a week.
On Thursday, high school students helped Mulga with some of the broad painting, before he begins working on the finer detail.
The wall is about 34 metres wide and 2 metres high and made possible thanks to a Regional Arts Development Fund grant.
Its theme was chosen by the community after a community engagement exercise calling for bright colours and fun images for children in a modern street-art-style mural.
"This mural will really spruce up the look of the entrance to the Family Fun Park and add to the aesthetics and overall look of the area," Mayor Joyce McCulloch said.
"I'm really pleased that it will also include some great community engagement, with local high school students getting involved and helping to do some of the painting. I look forward to seeing the end result of Mulga's work, and I'm confident local residents and visitors alike will love it too."
